Effects of Stress, Anxiety, and Depression, A Real Life Incident:
Yesterday, when I was on routine work in my office. There was a weekend but due to some workload, we are called on duty even on Sunday. Half of the day was passed when I was told that one of our colleagues did not report on duty. The boss makes a phone call to him to report to the office as soon as possible. After a few moments, he reported to the workplace.
Here, I noticed that he is very upset and unhappy with the behavior of the boss as he was feeling stressed. He was busy with the arrangement of the marriage ceremony of his brother where he left everything and reported on duty. Whereas he also requested the boss to spare him but the boss didn’t agree. I met that guy and motivated him that you shouldn’t take it on the heart as it is a part of your life. It can happen to anybody and any time and we should always be ready for it. Maybe sometimes, the boss might not be able to fulfill our requirements. No doubt he is senior to us but it might also be possible that he may not understand the importance of our needs.
Time was on its flow and we were busy with routine work. After an hour, when I was in my office, I heard the sound of crying and dissatisfaction. I ran out of my office and tried to trace out, what is going on and from where that sound is coming. It was a very terrible sound and I was not able to bear that. At first, I imagined that maybe there are some of our colleagues are playing and having fun with each other. But I was wrong and the case was different from what I imagined. Everyone was running here there in suspense and nobody knows what has happened.
Stressed Situation:
As we reached one of our offices that guy was crying loudly in a senseless way. He was holding one of his hands on his heart as he was unable to breathe smoothly. He was crying so badly that it shocked me too much. Some of our colleagues hold him from his hands and were trying to provide first add services. For the time being, I got so scared and senseless. But then immediately I recovered and ran towards the drivers’ room and ordered a driver to take out the ambulance as soon as possible. He took the keys and started the ambulance within no time. The ambulance reached the required location within two minutes. We hold up that guy and settled him in the ambulance.
The ambulance took him to the nearest hospital. Where the ECG and other tests were taken immediately as the doctor was available on duty. But thanks God, ECG, and all medical results were clear. The doctor congratulated us that everything is normal now. I inquired from the doctor, what was the reason behind it. The doctor said that this was happened due to depression, anxiety, and suppression of emotions. The guy’s blood pressure level increased and as he was holding one of his hands on his heart. Now he has recovered enough but is still admitted to the hospital for observation. I wish and hope he might recover soon. How to control your emotions?
Writing this post doesn’t only mean to tell you about the incident but there are two main lessons I got.
Be a Leader to avoid Stressed Situations:
1. If you are a Boss, try making yourself a Leader. The behavior of the boss many times may not be acceptable for many subordinates. Act like a leader and try to understand the requirements of each individual under your command. Spend some time with your subordinates so that they will be able to share their problems with you and it will be easier for you to manage them when required.
Never suppress your Emotions:
2. Never suppress your Emotions. I repeat, never Suppress your emotions. Express your emotions in one way or the other way gently. Suppression of emotions can lead you to hypertension and such type of incidents. When you express your emotions to somebody you divide your pressure by two. Half of the pressure on the mind flow out and then slowly you recover yourself soon in a better way.
Note: As I’m, not a medicinal individual. So, if there are any unrelated points in my writing or expression, you can point out it. You can share your opinion and it would strongly be appreciated.
