Disadvantages of Social Media

Along with a lot of advantages, everything has a dark side too. Where there are a lot of benefits of social media, there are some disadvantages too. Sometimes its looks curse when people misuse social media platforms. Social media has badly doomed today’s generation, where they can get so many benefits, they are misusing these social platforms in so many ways.

Lack of Family Interaction:

The main disadvantage of social media is social isolation. The time when all family members sit and spend their quality time. The young generation prefers social media sites to spend their time with. This has reduced the strong bonding between the families. Everyone looks busy by doing nothing. Moreover, there is no knowledge of wisdom and history to share with each other and with younger generations.

Lack of emotional attachment:

You might have thousands of friends on social media, but you haven’t had any emotional attachment with them. Lack of emotional attachment leads to weaker relationships. Also sometimes where we share our emotions, it has no value to the person we are sharing.

negative effects of social media

Social media has some other disadvantages listed below. In my opinion, we need to read more and more about the negative effects of social media.

  • Cyber bullying is one of the main disadvantage of social media.
  • Harassment through different ways by leaking your personnel information like images & videos, that could disclose you in front of the entire Internet and can create hurdles and can wash your respect.
  • It is a complete homicide of time for our younger generation. Whenever we start using social sites, we lose our control of time and became unacquainted with the flow of time.
  • Hacking is also a big disadvantage of using social media. Anyone can hack your personnel account and information by applying just simple techniques.
  • Lack of interest in real life studies is also a major problem for both older and younger generation.
  • It is a source of spreading counterfeit information. Any fake news become so viral without investigating of real or fake.
  • A millions of thousands of fake ID’s exist on each social media platform. You are having a lot of friends but you don’t even know their real name and other info. This is  a major drawback of using social media.

Conclusion of Social Media Advantages Disadvantages:

Here I would like to suggest that we should limit our use of social media. We can do it because I believe, Everything is Possible. However, Social Media Advantages Disadvantages are not negotiable. We should send and accept friend requests to the people, personally known to us. Moreover, never ever share any of your personnel passwords and sensitive information with anybody. Try to investigate the reality of any news before liking and sharing. Try not to share any personnel information (which you want to keep it secure),in order stay protected over the Internet. There are so many more things that you can find on social platforms, but your mission should be stay safe and keep your friends and family protected.

Don’t stop yourself to share your experience of social media?

Thank you for posting this. I’m not a regular WordPress User and hardly ever read posts but this one caught my eye. I am on-board with this discussion and it came at a time when I think everyone needs to hear this.

  2. Using Ancestry DNA product connected with cousins I never knew and adopted cousin I had no idea I had! FB and SnapChat added depth to the connections!

I have an addictive personality and could not restrict social media use…. for me I have to go cold turkey and cut the cord. I don’t follow brands anymore so I have no need for Instagram. I thought I needed it, but the majority of traffic i get is through WP (go figure!). As for Facebook, I haven’t used it in over 2 years. I could use it but choose not to for my sanity. All of the points you listed are spot on and negatively affected me. It took me several years to learn that I don’t actually need social media to perform my best.

  4. I’ve met some wonderful people through social media, mostly on Twitter. We talk regularly, and doing so genuinely brightens my day. In addition, I’ve been able to share my own WordPress posts with a much bigger audience, thanks to social media. Also, this is a great and well-written article. I agree that social media is best used in moderation.

  5. Great post! It is sad that social media affects family/social interaction and attachment. I am glad that you pointed those facts out. They are major disadvantages.
Reconnecting with old friends and sharing my faith are two major reasons I use social media.

I teach computer stuff as a job and Ive had a couple of acute addiction cases, it’s almost impossible to bring them back because of the sense of pseudo social consensus they get from it, they take shelter in it and avoid your arguments. They are not doing this as a work or such, they’re just being “part of the group”.

Just a note, nowdays if you get hacked it is your fault, “simple techniques” don’t work anymore. That or someone else with inside access selling your information.

At my age (!), I have family and friends spread all over the country. Social media allows me to stay in touch. The capacity to share pictures is especially delightful. I also appreciate the blogosphere, giving us a platform for our writing and the opportunity to meet even more amazing people.

    • Rising Star says:

Absolutely, it’s a great source for sharing our love. I am too very much thankful to blogosphere for this wonderful opportunity, as I have written one of my best ever articles for this thankfulness, “Hey I am in love” is the title of the article.

  10. The good of social media for me has been in my advocacy for the oppressed, especially the people of Syria. I have formed some incredible bonds and professional partnerships.

The downside of social media is that it can become an all-consuming full-time job just trying to keep up with it. I call it the “Virtual Vortex” that can suck me in and distract me from something else that I should be attending to, and it can become a never-ending and overwhelming task to try to keep up with it all.
Thank you for this enlightening post.

    • Rising Star says:

Rightly said, “Virtual Vortex”, it takes us Away from time management. This is the case with many people. As social media have both negative and positive impacts on our lives and activities.

Social media really helps me in channeling my feelings through art. It also gives me a sense of accomplishment whensoever I draw or write something and post it. My goal is to post at least once a week. I believe now a days we have lots of opportunities available that can help us in spending our time wisely. It depends on us to waste our time or to utilize it smartly.

    • Rising Star says:

Absolutely dear, we are the master of our time, it depends on us whether ti utilize it perfectly or waste it. But there comes a time in your life when time becomes your master and the time decides to pass you or throw you back.
Social media is a great source to spread your art and business to a huge audience within no time, but I am sorry to say that a very few people especially in my country is utilizing it.

  12. Ayesha says:

Same goes for my country. I am grateful that at least there are people who are rightly using their priviledges. There will be individuals who will get inspired, follow them, and that is how chain of productivity will increase with time.

The positives of social media: for introverts it helps them to communicate with others, get connected and take risks. There is many opportunities around creating music and writing your own book. Blogging is like an online journal that you share with the world and get to share views/opinions/ interest which allows you to learn from each other. Taking risks in creating a business, making money in different ways. For me I never really seen myself as a writer but I have had journals, created mindfulness journals for youth, scarped booked and so much more. I then thought let me try this thing that is called blogging and I am enjoying it. I am taking risks in sharing my writing and thoughts. People have been respectful and kind. It has been a nice experience so far!

    • Rising Star says:

Absolutely LucyLu, you are having a lot of experience in different fields and I appreciate your Way of response and expressing your thoughts without any hesitation. It’s been a very good way to learn more about the world and people of the world. Those who takes risks in their lives gets better achievements and successes. I loved your blogging journal and would be pleased to visit your journals too.
